I understand where you are coming from. I used to think the same, and they teach exactly that in Bhakti Marga. I surrendered for 13 years - unfortunately that way of thinking can be distorted and caused me to remain in an abusive situation. I dont need to surrender to anyone, except mother nature. Nor do I need to be tested. I am just me. I am happy just being me, and I dont need to become anything else and be tested as to how well I did it.
